As shown in the video below, If your computer all of a sudden starts screaming at you, flashing urgent warnings, blaring alarms, and a yelling voice that says something like “Don’t you dare turn off this computer! It’s infected! Call this number to fix the infection”?
The so-called infection is actually a phishing attempt. They’re trying to trick you into calling the number so they can scam you.
What should you do?
I guess I should first answer the question “What should you NOT Do?”
The answer to that is that you should NOT call the number the voice is asking you to call
What you SHOULD do is try to restart your computer the normal way, and if that fails perform a hard/forced shutdown (as referenced below)
VERY VERY IMPORTANT:
After the computer is shut down, power it back on, sign into it if needed.
When you open up the web browser you were using when the noises started, you may be prompted to restore back to what you had open before. DO NOT do that!!.
Simply decline the offer and test to see if your computer is acting weird or seems to back to normal.
